The Art of Tailoring

The tailoring is the artisan workshop where the clothes are made. The tailor and his collaborators work within it to create tailor-made suits or modify and personalize ready-made suits.

Man has always been wearing clothing (more or less aesthetically pleasing), but we can say that tailoring became a real profession only in the Medieval period, around the 13th and 14th centuries, the period in which it is located the birth of FASHION, a phenomenon capable of influencing the mass in the economic and social field. The tailor's task was therefore to be able to respond to the new needs of customers who continually requested garments that would allow him to stand out on a social level.

The development of the tailoring profession in Italy reached its peak after the war thanks to the work carried out by the "tailors".

Before prêt-à-porter took hold, tailors were very widespread, but, due to the increase in the price of labor and the fierce competition of pre-packaged garments, starting from the sixties and seventies they gradually decreased.

Today when we talk about tailoring inevitably, we talk about high fashion or in any case the creation of high quality handcrafted and made-to-measure products.

What a good tailor must be able to do is advise customers on which garments are suitable for the physicality of each and the best fabrics.

To be able to carry out this artisan profession adequately, a long preparation is always required, which is mainly acquired in the field.
If one of your dreams is to work in the fashion world, know that, at whatever level you aspire, it will not be easy.
